Metal & Lace 2 is a vastly superior game to the first Metal & Lace game, which was published in the US by MegaTech. It’s still a Hentai (adult/nudity) game, but at least the action is a lot better this time around.

The basic gameplay stays the same as the first game: set in the far future, you and your opponent remotely pilot female robots (“Robo-Babes”) who duel each other in futuristic arenas. After each win (two rounds required to win a match), you are treated to pictures of the robot getting undressed at a local strip bar, and the number of pictures depend on how well you fought the battles. For example, if you win both rounds with simple attack moves, you will get to see 2 pictures. But if you win both rounds with special moves, you will see 4 pictures. If for some reason you find nude pictures of anime girls titillating, you might enjoy Metal & Lace 2. But even fans of fighting games who don’t like Hentai will find much to like in the fluid animations and a good variety of Robo-Babes and special moves. You may lose as many times as you want, but if you lose at least once, you won’t get to fight the last champion girl.

Overall, Metal & Lace 2 is a marked improvement over the first game. It’s still far from being a “must-have” (and not as good as V.G. Max, a better-known Hentai fighting game), but it’s quite decent. Hentai fans will be happy to hear that the Hentai screens are presented in sharp 640×480 SVGA resolution (as opposed to 320×200 for fighting scenes). Not a Top Dog, but not far from being one.
