No, this is not the 1999 FPS blockbuster (which is far too popular to be considered an underdog anyway :)). Unreal here is a poor conversion of the popular Amiga game by UBI Soft. The game is basically a fantasy hack-n-slash game, comprising 8 levels, with 5 in 3D and 3 in 2D. Your objective is to save Princess Isolde from the evil hands of Polymorphic (the big bad guy with a cool-looking flaming head)- To accomplish this feat, you will be faced with diverse test of strength and logic while trying to get the high score. You “die” once you energy level reaches zero. To help compensate for the loss of energy, you will receive a 50 point energy bonus as you pass from one level to the next.
Although gameplay remains the same, what makes Unreal a great game on the Amiga are the great atmosphere, music, and beautiful graphics — most of which are missing in the PC conversion. This makes the game average at best, although still recommended for the nice mix of 3D and 2D levels, and well-balanced gameplay that is neither too hard for beginners nor too easy for experts.
