Pontifex II is the superior sequel to Pontifex, a unique bridge designing game that is deservedly in our Hall of Belated Fame. If you love Pontifex, this sequel will not disappoint.
Your goal, as in Bridge Builder and Pontifex, is to successfully build bridges that can sustain a given amount of weight and stay under budget. Different parts cost different amounts of money (e.g. steel is stronger but more expensive than iron), so both sound engineering decisions and financial planning are required to succeed. Fans of the first game will be happy to see many new parts in this sequel. Among other things, you can now build drawbridges that open up allow ships to pass underneath. The 3D graphics look better and animate much smoother than before, and there are more devious levels to challenge veteran Pontifex builders (don’t attempt anything in the Complex level until you are really confident of your skills).
With excellent graphics, top-notch gameplay, and wonderful challenge, Pontifex II is everything the original was, and more. Although the game is more evolutionary than revolutionary, that is definitely nothing wrong if the original is already a great game. After all, if it ain’t broke, there is no need to fix it. If you enjoy unique simulations, puzzle, or strategy game, check out this wonderful underdog that is well worth the registration price. Two thumbs up!
